VariBlast wins a complex tender to help refurbish Welches Dam
Working with Jackson Civil Engineering, on behalf of the Environment Agency, VariBlast were called in to carry out localised cleaning to the steel piling, at the entrance of the pumping station, in preparation for welding works to be carried out. After erecting a temporary piled wall across the entrance to the station, the water was pumped out to create a dry area for the cleaning and refurbishment works to be completed. The project involved the removal of large areas of rust, iron scale and growth from the painted piles, to achieve the Swedish blast cleaning standard – SA 2.5 (Near – White metal blast finish). This level of cleaning finish was easily and efficiently achieved, allowing the delicate welding process to follow.
